Coleman ComfortSmart Deluxe Cot

One of the best large camping cots I have found for explorers that have trouble sleeping is the Coleman ComfortSmart Deluxe Cot. Before camping with this cot I was sleeping on the ground, or a small self-inflating pad that did not work too well.

After one particularly wet weekend sleeping on the ground with just my tent and sleeping bag, I decided I was tired of being cold and wet all night and found my favorite camping cot for sale, the Coleman ComfortSmart Deluxe.

Camping Cot with Mattress

One of the main reasons I like this Coleman camping cot is the mattress. Once I decided to upgrade to a padded cot I knew it needed to have a mattress that was comfortable, yet could still take a beating on my camping trips.

The mattress on the ComfortSmart Deluxe is made of thick foam with a built-in coil spring suspension. The coil spring suspension made me feel right at home after a long day of hiking, especially after I slipped on my fitted cot sheets.

When I sleep I tend to toss and turn which has caused problems on coil spring camping mattresses in the past. Some are noisy, and I have even had a spring pop through the mattress once while I was sleeping. The Coleman ComfortSmart coil system worked perfectly and not only did I not hear a single squeak all night, but the mattress has also kept its shape after multiple camping trips and uses in my guest room.

Large Camping Cots

The Deluxe model is slightly larger than your standard camping cot, which is perfect for me since my dog often goes camping with me. The steel frame can support up to 300 pounds and can fit campers up to 6 ft. 6 in. in height, which means most people will have some wiggle room around their feet.

The large size of the bed, coupled with the steel construction helped me to get a great night sleep even while camping on top of some uneven, sandy soil.

Once unfolded the cot measures 30 in. x 80 in. x 15 in. meaning it might not fit in some small tents like backpacking tents or lightweight bivys. Your best bet is to use the ComfortSmart Deluxe inside multiperson tents or inside cabins on extended camping trips. One trick I learned is to store some of your gear under your cot! It helps save room in tight quarters, especially if you have a lot of gear or a large backpack.

When it was time for me to pack up and go home the cot folded up to 39.6 in. x 30.7 in. x 5.5 in. fitting neatly in the back of my truck!

Setting up the ComfortSmart Deluxe

The first thing I always check before buying camping gear is how difficult it is to set up. I tend to go on long hikes and the last thing I want to do when arriving at camp is to set up complicated camping equipment.

Assembling the Coleman ComfortSmart Deluxe is as easy as taking it out of its plastic packaging, unfolding and locking the 3 legs in place and putting on your sheets or sleeping bag. The mattress is not a standard size but I found twin sheets with an elastic lining can be pulled to fit.

The only problem I experienced was a plastic smell when I first opened the packaging. At first, I was worried the smell might linger, especially in my tent but it quickly disappeared once the cot had time to air it out.

The ComfortSmart Deluxe is one of my favorite camping cots due to its size, durability, and use as a guest bed when I have friends in town. It has become hard to pass up a night camping with this cot, if you are shopping for a large camping cot then don’t forget the Coleman ComfortSmart Deluxe Cot.
